The African Maternity Link has been registered as a charity with the Charity Commission under number 1169905.
We are officially a registered charity! This has been months in the pipeline as it takes quite a while to sort out everything officially. Before now we were working under the status of a “health link” which twinned us (on behalf of Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust) with Lumley hospital in Freetown. We are now more appropriately able to continue our work in Sierra Leone, linking Sierra leone midwives with UK midwives.
The African Maternity Link has 6 trustees named:
Helena White- Chairman
Liz McSporran- Bates
In February 2016 Helena White and Oli Jeacock began the follow-up from the November and January workshops; this trip aims to complete that task, visiting the remainder of the attendees in their health centres
Liz McSporran-Bates – NHS midwife (retired)
Gina Short – Senior midwifery lecturer
Objectives of Visit – August 19th-31st 2016
- Visit two units a day in the Freetown area
- Perform questionnaires with workshop attendees to gather data for monitoring and evaluation, particularly relating to cascading of training
Neonatal resuscitation (NNR) update session in each unit visited
